A COURSE ON TEACHER EDUCATION RESEARCH AND SUCCESSFUL STRATEGIES FOR PUBLISHING IN THE FIELD

Prof. Zena R. Mello
San Francisco State University

The workshop is oriented toward research on teacher education, with a particular focus on educational sciences and pedagogical psychology. It outlines basic structures, contents, as well as the institutional framework of teacher education research in the United States and aims to develop strategies for successful publishing in the field, and the social sciences in particular. Thus, among other aspects, participants learn how to compare their own experience as scholars in teacher training with the situation in the US, and how to meet requirements for publishing in the respective scientific journals and other pertinent outlets.

Day one includes an overview of the publication process, such as peer-review and tools for identifying an appropriate journal. Day two reviews the manuscript structure including the literature review, research questions, methods, and results. Day three focuses on communicating with editors, writing an effective cover letter, and revising a manuscript for resubmission.

This workshop is designed – primarily, but not exclusively – for Ph.D. students related to the heiEDUCATION-cluster “Bildungswissenschaften”, research-oriented M.Ed. students at Heidelberg University and the Heidelberg University of Education, as well as interested members of other heiEDUCATION-clusters at HSE.

The workshop is held in English and free of charge.

Prof. Zena R. Mello is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the San Francisco State University. Her research focuses on cognition and development, especially time perspective during adolescents and adulthood.
